MEMBER GROUPS
Following is a detailed list of the member groups currently playable on Believe In Heroes, and the part these groups play in the plot:
X-MEN
The X-Men are a group of mutants that were originally established by Charles Xavier in the sixties, with recruits making up the younger and less experienced members of the faction. Due to a sudden leap in evolution, mutants were born into the world, possessing the X-Gene responsible for granting them superhuman abilities that manifest at puberty. Mutants, or Homo Superiors, are hated and feared by other human beings because of their genetic differences, but Charles Xavier has made it his lifelong goal to create a world where both humans and mutants can prosper alongside one another, without hatred, and without fear.
Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters stands as an everlasting symbol of all that Charles Xavier dedicated and gave his life for, and continues to function in the capacity of a school and safe haven for mutants under its remaining staff members. However, with the Superhuman Registration Act looming, an extension of the Mutant Registration Act that haunted the mutant population for so many years before, the residents of the mansion find themselves divided between those opposing and defending the act. To make matters worse, the Brotherhood of Mutants, a faction most had imagined went defunct after the events of Alcatraz Island, are starting to stir again in opposition to another slight against their kind.
'BELIEVE IN HEROES' currently has the X-Men and X-Men Recruits as member groups. Please contact Becka, who plays ANNA D'ANCANTO, for any ideas you might have in mind pertaining to them.
BROTHERHOOD
The Brotherhood are a group of mutants similar to the X-Men, but different in their endeavours for mutant prosperity. The Brotherhood seek superiority for mutant kind above all else, by means of either subjugating the human race or eradicating what they perceive to be the inferior species altogether. Erik Lehnsherr originally established the Brotherhood following his resignation from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, having accepted that the world would never accept mutants, and that humanity was incapable of trusting those they perceived as different, as per past experiences.
The Liberty Island Incident and the Battle at Alcatraz Island were all attacks that had been attributed to the Brotherhood, but it was following that last grapple for power that the group were left decimated, both by the cure and the Phoenix's assault. The Brotherhood now stands as a shadow of its former self, its remaining members scattered. However, as it becomes clear to the God of Evil, Loki, that his magic is waning on Earth, he realizes the necessity for followers, and begins to set his sights on what remains of the once imposing faction.
'BELIEVE IN HEROES' currently has the Brotherhood as a member group. Please contact Maggie, who plays WANDA MAXIMOFF, for any ideas you might have in mind pertaining to them.
S.H.I.E.L.D
S.H.I.E.L.D was an acronym for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division - someone really wanted their initials to spell out shield - and operated in a military, scientific and espionage capacity. They were tasked with protecting the populace against threats of a more unnatural variety, beyond the scope of standard national security agencies. It was born from the remnants of the Strategic Scientific Reserve in the aftermath of World War II, and divided into three separate areas: Operations, Science and Technology and Communications. S.H.I.E.L.D functioned as a secret operatives group, until a move into the twenty first century cast a light on the clandestine organization with the swelling number of enhanced beings.
The original intention behind S.H.I.E.L.D was for the organization to serve as a defence against groups like HYDRA, but they ended up opening the door to elements of the faction they were designated to protect the world against, who proceeded to infiltrate every corner of the black ops programme.
A hostile takeover ensued, with S.H.I.E.L.D being overthrown, and HYDRA standing triumphant among the ruins. The aftermath of the S.H.I.E.L.D Civil War saw the group being branded as terrorists, with the world at large believing Director Nick Fury to be dead, and the likes of Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff and Maria Hill being branded as traitors. They form the remnants of S.H.I.E.L.D, and are currently striving to amass followers in order to launch a counter offensive, all the while placing what remains of the organization's loyal followers behind the scenes.
However, HYDRA quickly gained a quick and firm foothold on the resulting chaos, planting their agents within several positions of power across the globe, and wiping the slate clean as it were. To the world at large, S.H.I.E.L.D stands unbranded and fully operational, or HYDRAS.H.I.E.L.D as it has come to be known by those that stand in opposition of the group.
'BELIEVE IN HEROES' currently does not have S.H.I.E.L.D as a member group, but the organization still stands in the form of HYDRA (or HYDRAS.H.I.E.L.D), and positions in the group can still be applied for.
AVENGERS
The Avengers are a group consisting of six superheroes dedicated to the protection and safeguarding of Earth against threats of a less conventional nature that cannot be handled by a single superhero alone. They were established before the Chitauri Invasion of New York, and are notable for their position in society, because unlike other superhero groups they are government sanctioned, and operate under S.H.I.E.L.D as a part of the Avengers Initiative.
In the wake of the recent takeover, members of the group are forced to work for HYDRA, aware of the group's hold on what was originally S.H.I.E.L.D, but unable to act with the hindrance talks concerning the Superhuman Registration Act pose. Currently, their headquartes remain unknown, but are known only to the six members that make up the group; Steve Rogers, Anthony Stark, Thor Odinson, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton and Bruce Banner. They have recently opened their ranks to recruits, and are allowing a total of six to act as replacements, but given the current political and social climate, such substitutes will be under close observation.
'BELIEVE IN HEROES' currently has the Avengers and Secret Avengers as member groups. Please contact ALL members of staff for any ideas you might have in mind pertaining to the Avengers, while contacting J, who plays NATASHA ROMANOFF, for any ideas you might have in mind pertaining to the Secret Avengers.
HYDRA
HYDRA found its roots in the Nazi Third Reich Party under the leadership of Johann Schmidt, and was built around a mixture of science and the occult, with an aim to use both to dominate and conquer the world. In the aftermath of World War II, and the disappearance of its leader, HYDRA seemed to enter a period of suspended animation, when in fact it was growing within S.H.I.E.L.D the entire time, under the control of Wolfgang Von Strucker.

The aftermath of the S.H.I.E.L.D Civil War saw the group being branded as terrorists, with the world at large believing Director Nick Fury to be dead, and the likes of Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff and Maria Hill being branded as traitors. To the world at large, S.H.I.E.L.D stands unbranded and fully operational. In place of Nick Fury is another director, with a majority of the organization's agents continuing to work unbeknownst for HYDRA, while those renegade agents, the ones regarded as the remnants of S.H.I.E.L.D, are being systematically hunted down.
With a new director in place, HYDRAS.H.I.E.L.D has managed to extend its reach. Through technological and political means, the mutant population and other enhanced individuals remain under observation. Project Insight is armed to target any undesirables on the spot, and the revival of the original Mutant Registration Act to form the basis of the Superhuman Registration Act sees the group poised to either control or cut off what remains of S.H.I.E.L.D's resources, namely the Avengers Initiative. Baron Von Strucker has left his subordinates to focus on the mutants and superhumans, whether that involves exploiting or disposing of them, the HYDRA leader cares little. He has other plans.

A.I.M
Advanced Idea Mechanics was a weapons division of HYDRA created by Wolfgang Von Strucker during World War II, to comprise a group of great scientists whose sole purpose was to acquire and develop technology, all in an effort to overthrow the government. While HYDRA entered into a period of stasis, A.I.M. continued to evolve, growing in numbers and advancing in technology. To the public they were an international cartel dealing in the development and marketing of new technological products, when in reality they had long since returned to their parent group and have commenced developing weaponry for HYDRA once more.
'BELIEVE IN HEROES' currently does not have A.I.M. as a member group, but the organization operates through HYDRA, so contact Maggie, who plays KASANDRA WULF, for any ideas you might have in mind pertaining to them.
HELLFIRE CLUB
The Hellfire Club was a faction established during the eighteenth century for the wealthy and social elite, and has since developed from its starting point in England to spread across the world, setting down roots in New York and other major cities across the globe. Like the X-Men and Brotherhood, the group is made up of mutants, under the leadership of the Lord Imperial, with positions assigned according to the names of chess pieces. However, it does not seek outward domination or conquest, but instead chooses to exert influence through economical and political means. Membership to the club is usually hereditary, but can also be obtained through wealth and influence as well. Most join the club for the pleasures offered, but more join with the aim to amass more wealth and influence by means of backstabbing, betrayal and politicking.

FANTASTIC FOUR
The Fantastic Four are a group of four superheroes that came together after exposure to a cosmic storm granted them a vast array of powers, wherein they decided to use these powers for the benefit of humanity. The group consists of Reed Richards, otherwise known as Mr Fantastic, who can stretch any part of his anatomy, his wife, Susan Storm, more popularly known as the Invisible Woman, who manipulates light molecules to make herself invisible, her brother, Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, capable of flight and engulfing himself in flames, and Benjamin Grimm, the Thing, capable of immense strength and durability, covered in a muscular orange, rock-like substance.

ASGARDIAN
The Asgardians are a race of extra dimensional beings who were once worshipped by the Norsemen as Gods. The majority of them wield the potential to practice magic, but for the most part it is their strength in battle and prowess in arms that they are noted for. Their government exists as a monarchy, and therefore their behaviour and habits are far removed from more modern worlds such as Earth. They differ from the mutants and superheroes of this world as well, in that they are a great deal stronger, more durable, with a lifespan that far exceeds the average human by over five millennia. However, when present on Earth, their natural abilities are slightly weakened. There they are not considered to be as strong, nor as powerful in the wielding of magic while residing in the realm they call 'Midgard'.
HUMAN
... surely this group goes without saying?
NEUTRAL
'BELIEVE IN HEROES' does not have Neutral Mutants nor Neutral Superhumans as member groups. The reasons for this can be found in the following link.
