BREAK IN AT S.H.I.E.L.D HQ IS THE 'MUTANT PROBLEM' TO BLAME? BY ELIZABETH BRANT Some few months ago the New York City Headquarters of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (known more commonly by the name S.H.I.E.L.D) was attacked under circumstances that still remain suspicious and assailants that still remain unknown. Sources within the World Security Council declined to comment following the break in, refusing to volunteer information pertaining to the supposed identities of the perpetrators, not even to comment on the nature of the attack itself. The only detail they would relinquish at the time alluded to a suspected break in, but recent information seems to confirm that it may have been mutant terrorists behind the attack. This comes following the announcement of a fundraising event that is to be hosted by Robert Armitage, a British philanthropist and member of the World Security Council, which aims to generate awareness and opposition against the proposed Superhuman Registration Act. The Superhuman Registration Act mirrors the very same Mutant Registration Act that the mutant populace was dealt some eleven years ago by the late Senator Robert Kelly, a piece of legislation which could very well be considered the root cause of the Liberty Island incident. This event saw mutant terrorist leader, Erik Lehnsherr, attempt to turn the world leaders in attendance at the UN Summit into mutants. Lehnsherr later went on to lead an army of mutants on a purge of Alcatraz Island, aiming to rid the world of a cure for what the human population regarded as the 'mutant epidemic', and with an organization such as S.H.I.E.L.D on the receiving end of yet another attack, one has to wonder if the group is doing more harm than good digging up old wounds. Earlier in the year the organization lost three of its helicarriers as well as its base in the Triskelion. The releasing of sensitive information also left the World Security Council enduring a personal relations based nightmare, begging the question of how safe is the identity of the worlds enhanced in the hands of such a complacent organization? The death of Nicholas J. Fury has not only seen a change in power within S.H.I.E.L.D, but it seems a change in order as well, or lack thereof. Maybe it would be better to put an old dog out of its misery, and dismantle the international intelligence agency now and everything they aim to accomplish, before more damage can be done in the name of 'protecting' the public. |
