Something wild was stirring inside Logan tonight. It had not been long since his return to the X-Mansion, but already the beast inside of him was beginning to feel restless. Xavier's special school for mutants was still much like Logan remembered, but somehow everything also felt very different. The school's halls and classrooms were still full of smiling students, some eager to learn, others anxious to pass, almost all of them willing to wave at their new combat instructor as he passed them in the hall. It was not hard for him to smile and wave back. Seeing all these children who would otherwise be alienated or worse for their powers being able to live and learn in a place where their differences were accepted and they could feel just like normal kids was enough to warm even his heart. Logan knew what it was like being a freak, and witnessing the Doc's vision as a reality was enough to remind Logan what he fought for in the first place.
Yet despite the crowded halls, the school still felt so empty. Logan passed classroom where Jean used two teach, and as he peered inside, a dead part inside of him expecting to see her beautiful face, he was almost disappointed when she wasn't there. Continuing on, Logan passed a classroom where he would usually see Rouge and Iceman flirting, but neither one of them took classes anymore. Finally, Logan passed the classroom where Xavier could usually be found droning on about some philosophical bullshit, but now the room was empty and quiet. Without the presence of so many of his former friends, the building felt tight and stuffy.
The bell rang, signifying the end of the day. Logan shook himself out of his sentimental stupor. His thoughts were beginning to sound like an old hosier going off about the "good ole days". It was about time he let go of the dead and started to care more about the living, but first he needed to get out and breath. Maybe take his bike out on a little adventure for the weekend.
A couple hours later Logan found himself descending down the stairs into the X-men's personal hangar/garage. In his hand was a paper plate loaded with several cuts of roast beef and a heaping portion of creamy mashed potatoes, all covered in a thick grainy gravy. As usual, Logan had opted to eat his dinner outside of the cafeteria, away from all the unfamiliar voices.
Before Logan could go on his little road trip, he would need to give his old bike something of a tune-up. As he reached the bottom of the stairs, Logan's ears informed him that he was not the only one performing some late night repairs. Even though he couldn't yet see who was accompanying him in the hangar, Logan didn't need his nose to figure it out. @beast 's little blue hairs were everywhere, signifying the genius X-men's presence in the hangar. "Hey Henry! Ya mind sum company?"
