S.H.I.E.L.D. ATTACKS AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN BROOKLYN IS THE AGENCY GOING TOO FAR? BY SOPHIA CONNELLY Once again the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistic Division, better known as S.H.I.E.L.D. is on the news and under scrutiny after an incident in Brooklyn, where, according to eyewitnesses, an agency Heli-Jet opened fire into an apartment building complex in complete disregard for public safety. Although fortunately there were minor injuries and no fatalities, at least among the innocent dwellers of the building, this has become a rallying point for the many enemies the besieged agency has in many corners of power around the World’s governments and just as was done after the incident in the Triskelion, there are many members not only of the United Nations but the World Security Council itself that are calling for the dismantling of the agency once and for all. A spokesperson for S.H.I.E.L.D. who wishes to stay anonymous informed this newspaper that the attack was done in response to the sighting of one of the three most dangerous and wanted fugitives in the World, Natasha Romanoff. A former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as a former Russian Intelligence Officer, Romanoff has been implicated -- along with fellow fugitives Steve Rogers and Maria Hill -- in the incident in Washington where three of the Agency‘s state of the art Heli-carriers as well as their Headquarters, known as the Triskelion, were destroyed. Romanoff is also wanted for the assassination of Secretary of Homeworld Security and member of the World Security Council Alexander Pierce as well as her presumed connection with War Criminal Loki and his rampage during the anti-Superhuman Registration Act fundraiser a couple of months ago. Although Loki was captured by the Avengers, one of SHIELD’s most famous initiatives, Romanoff -- who incidentally was a member of that group -- managed to escape. The recent events brings into question the availability of not only S.H.I.E.L.D. but the Avengers Initiative as well, especially as it seems that the passing of the SRA is almost a done deal. If and when the Act becomes official, it would fall on S.H.I.E.L.D. the enforcement of the law and many political figures question if an agency that has been under so much scrutiny lately for their massive failures would be able to actually monitor and enforce Superhuman individuals and if it would not be a better idea to create a new agency solely devoted to the Act. |
